What is the Meaning & Purpose of Life? [Video] April 16, 2013

I’ve heard someone say the 2 most important days in our lives are the day we were born and the day we discover why we were born. I know that my own life bears out the joy of the day, 25 years of age, when I found out why I was born. Do you really know the purpose of life? That’s the subject of this video cast of I Believe: Expressions of Faith.

What you’ll find affirmed, as you watch…: There is an answer to brokenness. There is meaning in life, and to life. If you’re feeling lost and alone, do hold on. You may be closer to the answers you are seeking than you know. I hope you’ll join me for this short video cast and explore additional resources and engage with us. Find the full I Believe Podcast transcript here. I’ve included a few spiritual nuggets to consider below.

On pre-mortal life, man’s origin:
We lived, as spirit children, in a divine family before this life. We learned and were instructed by Heavenly Parents who created us and desired that we reach our full potential and have joy. We maxed our progression in their presence, and needed a second estate on which to come, temporarily leaving our spiritual home to gain a physical body, to further grow and be tested, in preparation for glory and eternal joy.

families are a purpose of life

On mortality:
We’re here to gain a body and experience, learn to become like God and our Savior, Jesus Christ, through His grace and faith in Him and His atonement. While we are out of God’s presence, we’re not here alone. He has given us His Spirit and His word to accompany us.

“It is [often] through sorrow and suffering, toil and tribulation, that we gain the education we came here to acquire and which will make us more like our Father and Mother in heaven” (O. Whitney).

Happiness is the object and aim of our existence.

On death:
Death is just a portal into eternal life of glory and happiness for those whose lives reflect that they desire it fully and the path Christ prescribes towards it.

“Those from whom we have to part here, we will meet again and see as they are. We will meet the same identical being that we associated with here in the flesh…. Deformity will be removed; defects will be eliminated, and mena and women shall attain to the perfection of their spirits, to the perfection that God designed in the beginning.”

Scripture Verse: “Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life. And then shall it come to pass that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow” (Modern Revelation: Another Testament of Jesus Christ, Book of Mormon: Alma 40: 11-12).
