Prayers for Colorado

So appalling. May God grant eternal rest to the dead, swift healing to the survivors, consolation, grace, strength and peace to all who love them and mercy to the man who did this monstrous thing. Mother Mary, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

I’m very saddened and praying for them.

But would it be out-of-order for me to gripe about how certain people have already tried to exploit this tragedy for political gain? The victims’ blood was barely dry when the usual suspects started in harping on gun control, speculating that the shooter was a member of the Tea Party (wrong guy with the same name), counter-speculating that he may have been a registered Democrat (another wrong guy with the same name), etc. Seriously, this terrible massacre didn’t have a political element at all until they started in with all this cr*p. It’s just a horrible tragedy, can’t you lay off the sectarian divisiveness for once? I’m just so annoyed by the pundits and media, on top of feeling bad for the victims.

When people lose all credibility (to wit, the entire political class), I find I’m not outraged by things they say. Expecting anything more than amorality is a wasted exercise of putting our faith in princes instead of God.

We can ban all the guns we want. But when I see parents taking toddlers and primary school kids to “The Hunger Games”, what should we expect. again?

I suspect we’ll have 72-hours of navel-gazing by the media, and then we’ll get back to pre-ordering Call of Duty 18.

May God comfort the wounded and the distraught.
