When #NeverAgain becomes Again and Again – How to Help in Syria

When #NeverAgain becomes Again and Again – How to Help in Syria December 13, 2016

As the phrase goes – Never Again.

Except it does keep happening. Again. And Again. And Again.

Out of Syria, in eastern Aleppo, comes grim reports of a city on the brink of annihilation. Of mothers wondering how and when their children will die. Of Syrians tweeting out questions to scholars if they could commit suicide before they are killed or tortured. Of Syrians being shot and killed point blank. Of Syrian men asking if they’re women can choose to die rather then be caught, raped and killed.

This upon genocide of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, upon death and destruction being perpetuated by ISIS in the Middle East, upon millions of others around the world facing hardship, strife, persecution, destruction, targeting, oppression or hate.

What are we to do? Pray? Donate to good charities? Work with relief agencies? Pressure our politicians to do something? Love those around us? All of this and more.

Wrote Siraaj Muhammad on Facebook:

Your circle of concern is greater than your circle of influence. Aleppo is in your circle of concern, and the more you focus on what you cannot do, the more will grow your pain and heartbreak.

Focus on your circle of influence. You can make du’aa, you can encourage others to do so. Get up in the last third of the night if you really care and pray earnestly to Allah for those who have passed and those who have remained.

Here is a du’a for the oppressed.

And here are some charities where you can donate:
