Illegal Christian indoctrination at public high school in Texas

Illegal Christian indoctrination at public high school in Texas March 5, 2015

Breaking the law for Jesus: A high school principal in Texas is caught reciting Bible verses during morning announcements despite the fact that school-sponsored Bible readings are illegal.

A thoughtful student at White Oak High School, in White Oak, Texas recorded White Oak Principal Dan Noll breaking the law by reciting verses from the Christian Bible as a part of each morning’s school announcements.

The brave student provided the recordings to Hemant Mehta at Friendly Atheist. The following are examples of the daily school-wide Bible reading:

Proverbs 28:10: He who leads upright along an evil path will fall into his own trap, but the blameless will receive a good inheritance.

Proverbs 15:8: The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him…A moment of silence.

Luke, Chapter 1, Verse 38: Surrendering is the best demonstration in obedience and trust.

In his post, Mehta correctly notes that the Bible preaching principal is wrong when reciting Luke 1:28, because Luke 1:38 actually says:

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

Apparently this school has a documented history of violating students’ rights by proselytizing and promoting Christianity. In an update to his original post, Mehta links to a Freedom From Religion complaint dated Oct. 31 stating school coaches had been leading student athletes at the public school in organized Christian prayers, as well as prayers being broadcast over the school’s public address system.
