I have respected Father Frank Pavone over the years. I think he’s a man of good will who sincerely wants to help unborn children and help to heal post-abortive women. I admired how he was present to Terry Schaivo’s family. I admired him for helping with Baby Joseph.

I was concerned when I heard that Father Frank Pavone had disobeyed orders to cooperate with reforms, and had repeatedly been in trouble for not being transparent about his finances with his bishops. A priest must be obedient to his bishop.

I am deeply concerned now. As Cosmos in the Lost first reported and Keith Michael Estrada is reporting now, Father Frank Pavone’s organization, Priests for Life, has budgeted almost half a million dollars to get Donald Trump elected.

As the anonymous contributor at Cosomos In The Lost has reported, Priests for Life is a 501 c-3 non-profit, which is legally required to follow strict regulations about political campaigns, with very stiff penalties for violations. This budgeting of half a million dollars to campaign for Trump certainly seems to be dancing very close to a legal violation; I trust it’s not actually gone that far.

I believe that Father Frank Pavone has the best of intentions. I am also pro-life, and where I disagree with Father Pavone about his methods I believe we share a common zeal– we want to help mothers and children in any way we can. I’ve been sickened by Pavone’s cozy relationship with Trump during this election cycle, considering that even after Trump conveniently claimed to have changed his mind on abortion, he still adamantly claims that he respects Planned Parenthood. It’s unseemly in any number of ways for Pavone to be so active in the campaign to elect a Planned Parenthood supporter who now has admitted to boasting about being a rapist.

I am inviting Father Frank Pavone to comment on this himself.  This latest breaking news, in combination with his questionable past regarding finances, is extremely scandalous.

In the meanwhile, I strongly urge my fellow pro-life Catholics to donate to other pro-life organizations not headed by Pavone.  We can do better than this.
