I’ve been saying for several years that our two-party system of government in the U.S. is not working well. It’s mostly due to the change going on in the Republican Party. I’m saying the U.S. therefore needs another, a third, viable, political party. (See my posts, “The Republican Party’s Reputation Is Shot to Hell” (4/23/2019); “Republicans–Three Strikes and You’re Out” (10/4/2019; “Republicans Are about to Do Like Trump: Shoot Themselves in the Foot” (1/5/2021). Such a third party may have just... Read more

On this second day of the Senate trial, Republican House managers presented another day of disturbing video evidence, much of which had never been shown before, and compelling arguments. In my opinion, it was so convincing that Trump did indeed, and purposely so, incite the crowd he gathered on Certification Day, January 6th, to assault the Capitol Building and literally “fight like hell” against the 500+ members of Congress gathered there to certify the electoral votes making Joe Biden president.... Read more

Today, on Day One of the Senate impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, the Trump Ship looked like the Titanic going down to a watery grave. First, the Democratic House managers began their presentation to find Trump guilty of inciting a crowd to commit insurrection by showing a 13-minute video of video of clips of excerpts from Trump’s 80-minute speech at noon to that crowd combined with scenes of the mob storming the Capitol Building and members of Congress... Read more

Superstar PGA Tour player Brooks Koepka, a four-time major winner, had been struggling with orthopedic issues for over a year. And even though he missed his last three PGA Tour cuts, he came from behind today to win the Waste Management Phoenix Open for the second time. He admitted in his victory speech afterwards that his physical ailments were causing him to have some doubts about whether or not he could ever get back into the winners circle. Koepka won... Read more

I blog often about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for two reasons: (1) it is centered on the rightful possession of what the Bible (rarely) calls “the holy land,” and (2) I wrote a book about this conflict entitled Palestine Is Coming, published 31 years ago, that becomes more relevant as the decades pass because events proceed in the direction that I lay out in the book on the basis of my interpretation of especially ten prophecies in the Jewish Bible (=Old... Read more

I just read such a good article on how some Christians, especially Evangelicals, have been radicalized to support violence as a means to make the USA a Christian nation. This growing movement was evident in the assault on members of Congress gathered at the Capitol Building on January 6th to certify the election of Joe Biden as president. And then a riot erupted in which five people died, but it could have been much worse. The Senate will begin the... Read more

Donald Trump speaks with a forked tongue. When he says something, it can often be understood as literal or nonliteral. It has been this way throughout his presidency. When he says something that most hearers understand him to mean literally, and then he gets highly criticized for it, Trump then argues that he didn’t mean it that way. He often offers one of two defenses: either he didn’t mean it literally or he was just joking. Under Trump’s direction, it’s... Read more

Republicans are always claiming that their leadership in Congress and the Executive branch, thus a Republican president, are best for the U.S. economy. And I see this often in comments on my blog. But that’s not true according to an op-ed piece in The New York Times today entitled, “The Economy Does Much Better Under Democrats. Why?” The subtitle explains, “G.D.P., jobs and other indicators have all risen more slowly under Republicans for nearly the past century.” A supplied chart... Read more

The U.S. Senate will begin its trial of former President Donald Trump in a few days, on February 8th. The trial likely will last no more than a week. It remains to be seen whether or not the Senate will decide that witnesses may be called and questioned. The entire event will be televised and thus be watched by many Americans, probably more than during Trump’s first impeachment because this accusation is way more serious. The total of 100 senators–evenly... Read more

Co-leader Patrick Reed shot 68 today at Torrey Pines Golf Course to win the Farmers Insurance Open by five strokes over five players who were tied for second. Reed easily marched to victory because no one really mustered a charge against him. It was Reed’s ninth PGA Tour win in a rather feisty career marked by alleged rules infractions in which he was not penalized, one of them occurring yesterday. But the tough-minded red-shirt wearer on Sunday has the knack... Read more
