Well, I knew it would happen. People on both sides of the great premillennialist versus amillennialist debate sparked by John MacArthur have started throwing Spurgeon quotes at each other. I have been doing my best to stay on the sidelines on this one, and I haven’t even read the rest of Tim’s summaries of the conference. (Certain events have obviously preoccupied me!) I have been trying to resist posting anything new, preferring instead to simply publish “something I prepared earlier”... Read more

Note: I originally wrote this article for www.sermoncentral.com where it appeared on February 26, 2007. __________________________________________________ Technology helps me in both my sermon preparation and in my personal devotional life. By technology, I’m referring specifically to the Internet and Bible software. I love it and have no apology for using it to discover insights from God’s Word and to improve the quality of my preaching. People have three different reactions when I talk to them about using technology to help... Read more

This story retold by Chuck Colson brought a little bit of warmth to my day. In all the horrors of the ongoing war in Iraq — and let’s not forget U.S. soldiers are also at times the ones firing on their enemies — a bit of humanity, or rather the image of God, shines through from time to time: “I have never seen a more dramatic example of worldviews in contrast, nor have I been prouder of an American G.I.... Read more

In today’s Lloyd-Jones Monday, the Doctor discusses the issue of “preaching other people’s sermons,” which he states is “a not uncommon practice.” “I have but one comment to make about this—it is utterly dishonest unless you acknowledge what you are doing. I never have understood how a man can live with himself, who preaches other men’s sermons without acknowledgment. He receives the praise and the thanks of people, and yet knows that this is not due to him. He is... Read more

Ten years ago today I was experiencing very similar feelings to the ones I am today. I was exhausted, and in awe of my resilient wife for what she had just gone through. We had also had experienced a bit of concern about the birth which, like little George’s, had been far from straightforward. Like today, we were thanking God for His intervention in our lives and a safe arrival. Tamasin — on this your tenth birthday — I want... Read more

Well, here are a few more pictures of the little boy meeting his family. We have decided on the name – George Nathan Warnock. Here he is with various members of his family. Read more

We are pleased to announce the birth of our fifth child. He was born at 17-10 on the 10th of March 2007 (10/03/07 for the mathematically minded!). He was 8 lb. 13 oz. He took the Warnock family interest in the TV show “24” a bit literally. He was born exactly 24 hours to the minute after we first entered labour ward. Mum and baby are both doing really well and are home already tonight. Read more

Dr. Al Mohler is next up at the Shepherds’ Conference. I just can’t get over how similar the line-up is at all these different conferences these days! You may notice a discrepancy in the numbering between my blog and Tim’s. This is because Tim has numbered one of his posts that discuss things that have been happening outside of the sessions. Go over to Tim’s blog to read the rest of this, but I found this quote stood out for... Read more

Tim is doing a sterling job as usual live-blogging for us. I am especially enjoying his little throw-away comments that really give you a feel for what the place is like. My big question? How much “physical expression” is there in the worship times, Tim? Anyway, here’s a quote that stood out to me from his notes from Duncan’s session. Challies begins by explaining that he was giving us a “specific example of mining seemingly-strange and irrelevant passages of the... Read more

Over on the Pulpit blog, Nathan Busenitz — who has graciously commented over here — has asked us charismatics to add any further killer arguments to his list of the top 10 charismatic objections to cessationism. I am not sure if he will have time in his seminar itself to address those that I offer below as additions to his very helpful list, but I suspect, given his gracious demeanor, I may find myself debating this issue with him further... Read more
