Hugh described my post on his RSS phobiaas a “fun post” and has linked to me saying I “tweaked” him and he deserved it. Not sure if “tweaked” means something different to the Americans, but to me “tweak” is a minor adjustment. I guess implementing an RSS feed would be a minor adjustment for some or might involve installing new software for others, but as far as I can tell, Hugh has done neither. As a result of Hugh’s inaction,... Read more

Sadly, the BBC producer who resigned was not the one responsible for this attrocity, but rather a concerned Christian who felt he couldnt stay with the BBC followng the screening of Jerry Springer The Opera he said- “Having now watched the show in its entirety and the hour-long introductory broadcast, my conclusion was that the blasphemy was far, far worse than even the most detailed news reports had led me to believe,” Mr Pitts wrote in the letter, to the... Read more

Well. I have nearly finished Hugh’s book and have loved almost everything I read. Right towards the end though Hugh talks about not “getting” what a RSS feed or an XML feed is. If you are wondering the same then here is my answer to him and explanation of why HE NEEDS ONE. An RSS feed is a feed either of headlines (my choice) a short extract (many peoples choice) or full posts (the choice of those who dont want... Read more

From the EA website/email Following the controversy surrounding the broadcast of Jerry Springer – The Opera on BBC 2 last Saturday night, this is an update on what the Evangelical Alliance has been doing and where we stand now. You can read his comments on our website, together with some other... Read more

Have just been reading Hugh’s book in which he argues that the now published Rathergate report is likely to be the one of the most scrutinised documents ever. Or has everyone moved on? Its interesting to realise from across the pond that there are a number of events like Rathergate where bloggers have made an impact on society in the States. It will come over here soon enough. Read more

BBC NEWS proudly report that “More than 1.7 million viewers watched Jerry Springer – The Opera on BBC Two on Saturday, despite the objections of protesters.” and state that “At least 45,000 people had contacted the BBC to complain about swearing and religious themes in the opera.” Interestingly in comparison to my earlier quick blog survey, they went on to say that “the BBC said on Sunday that it had received 317 calls since the broadcast, more than half of... Read more

I post below an Open email to the BBC and Ofcom and would urge other concerned individuals on both sides of the Jerry Springer:The opera debate to do likewise. The email was sent to [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected] Mr Thompson, As a Christian I wish to formally distance myself from the terrible treatment that some of your executives have been receiving concerning the Jerry Springer: The Opera show. Whilst I have been calling on fellow Christians to make polite protests... Read more

I was criticised by a commentator for calling on people to provide email addresses of supporters of the for the concerned public to contact in a civil manner. Personally I do not think that is going too far at all. Provided emails are pollite they are merely a nuscience and pose no security risk. Worst case scenario even if your mailbox is flooded you can always change your address. Most public figures have a public email account in any case... Read more

So here we go then. Lets see how the bloggers stack up. The scores on the doors? Well opponents of Jerry Sringer: the Opera lost by 7 posts to 18. Whats more there was hardly a blog swarm on the subject either. Am I depressed? A little? Despondent? Definitely not. If this small number of blogs coupled with the emails that circulated around peoples inboxes can generate this level of response to the BBC just think what it will be... Read more

The Observer has it neatly summed up. When a public service broadcaster thinks it knows better than the public you are in trouble. Browny points, free links and Kudos to any blogger who can source email addresses for any of the names listed here who have come out in support of the show- lets see how they like thousands of polite emails on the subject (please do keep them civil) Even though the number of complaints is running at 50,000,... Read more
