Over on Twitter, and also in the comments section of my recent post about how Christians should behave online, someone who describes himself as a representative of Grace To You (although he has been in touch to make clear that his posts on Twitter are not in his official capacity) has been string up the embers of debate that I have left alone for weeks now.  This is far from over, however, and I see that many people are still... Read more

Frank Viola and I connected online to record this conversation via zoom.us, a tool I am finding very helpful. We spoke about how to approach the Internet, and especially how to approach the arguments that occur online.  We spoke about the risks and benefits of social media.  God’s people do not stop being his people when they launch an Internet browser. Exploring together how God would want us to behave in this brave new world is vital. The conversation was... Read more

It seems clear to me that 2014 is going to go down as the year of the religious movie. There are a lot of Hollywood movies this year that are covering various biblical stories, and I must say I am looking forward to all of them. God’s Not Dead is a movie that I had not heard of until a few minutes ago when I connected for the first time with Rice Broocks thanks to my new favourite web video conferencing... Read more

Another thing I missed last month was James White and Michael Brown appearing on Revelation TV, one of Europe’s largest Christian TV station. Having said previously that I feel we as evangelicals we have largely failed in our duty to colonise the airwaves, I am thrilled to see these two men I respect accepting this invitation. Like Stetzer and Chandler, these men are not afraid of somehow being “contaminated” despite the broad rejection of Christian TV by so many evangelicals.... Read more

This was one of the things I missed during January when I scaled back my social media commitments dramatically. Matt Chandler, Jefferson Bethke, Priscilla Shirer, Josh Wilsonm and Christ August, who are all solid evangelicals, appeared on special TBN’s Praise the Lord program hosted by Ed Stetzer. The whole program faithfully proclaims the gospel of grace, and is very nicely produced. This video thrilled me. Too many of us in the circles I move in have made a sport of... Read more

Sometimes we find ourselves going round and round in circles. Reading 1 Samuel 26 sounded familiar even though I had taken a break from slowly meandering through this book looking for leadership lessons. But it seems David also had a sense of déjà vu and determined enough was enough. He had already determined that Saul could never be trusted again but must not be killed by him.. But here he was again, being hunted by his king and tempted by... Read more

This is the real cream of the crop of this discipleship series. No one is a disciple until they are also engaged in the mission of making disciples. Missional is a buzz word today, but here is an example from the 1980s of a talk designed to help us get caught up with God’s purposes. Brilliantly pastoral, Henry explores the reasons why so many Christians struggle with evangelism. You won’t feel condemned listening to this talk, but you will be... Read more

This third session in a series from my mentor Henry Tyler focusses on the vital place of joy in the life of the Christian. He also speaks about the role money has in our maturity. I hope you are enjoying this series of talks and if you have missed the Read more

In this second session of the audio discipleship course I introduced you to in the last post, Henry wisely dissects the difference between selfish ambition and godly ambition. Every young person should definitely listen to this, and every older person will also benefit. God really does want you to be successful in the tasks he has for you. These talks will help you to pursue your purpose diligently but not arrogantly. Read more
