I sit cross legged, heart unbound Postured for prayer For my world Full of death Full of pain Full of spirits weighed down by yokes of oppression Of hate Of greed Weeping Lamenting Crying out “God, in your mercy” When the Spirit draws near and whispers “What if the mercy you seek is not mine to give” Read more

Yesterday, I led a conversation on white supremacy in Indiana. Well not on white supremacy IN Indiana but at a conference for progressive Christians held in the state. Did you know that Indiana’s population is nearly 86% White? What’s interesting is that for the second weekend in a row I somehow ended up in conference space that managed to be even less diverse than that. The blessing is that this time, I got to name it. I got to speak... Read more

This piece was originally shared on the We Stand With Love website and serves as the project’s Love Listens week introduction. To read the rest of the offerings from this week or to find out more about this effort to amplify voices crying out for love and peace, visit the site here.  Contrary to images projected onto screens and words offered through lyric, love is not mere emotion. Love is decisive and responsive, its first means of engagement and movement come... Read more

I’ve shared a number of things on my blog but this is, by far, the most personal. A few days ago I noted that I would be employing new language and exploring new topics in my writing…unpacking my sexual identity is a part of that. That said, I wanted the first post in this new season to speak to my journey in identifying as Queer/Pansexual. I’ll be building this out more over time but wanted to start here… She was the answer... Read more

When I started this blog 2 1/2 years ago, I wanted to cultivate space where I could share my thoughts and reflections on life, faith, and journey. I also wanted to offer spiritual encouragement via writing prayers and devotionals as I felt led. Those things weren’t necessarily one in the same. Actually, they were very separate in my mind hence my tagline being “One voice. Two tones”. I had a conversation last night and realized that my voice is no... Read more

Each of us takes away something different from Good Friday. This year I see not only the cross but also the community found in those willing to be known as followers of Jesus despite what it could cost them. While Peter, Thomas, and the majority of the disciples were in hiding, Mary, John, and the women at the core of the movement were standing unashamed and bore witness to the state sanctioned, public execution of their teacher and their friend.... Read more

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Hebrews 10:24-25 I’m tired y’all. I am sincerely and honestly tired of the intrafamilial barbs, shade, and jabs I’m seeing thrown across the Table. What Table you ask? Well I’m speaking of the one Jesus sat at with his disciples.... Read more

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you…” Jeremiah 1:5 There is something in us – something central to our humanity – that makes us want to be fully known. It drives late night conversations, social media (over)shares, meetings over caffeinated beverage. We want people – especially those who we love – to REALLY know us. But they don’t know us. They don’t know our stories. They don’t know that we... Read more

I need shrill voices and talking heads to stop Seriously just stop speaking and embrace grey Embrace that place between black and white that varies in shade Unknown Full of ambiguity Complex The sort of Complexity that can’t be broken down to sound bite, youtube clip, or book; you need libraries to even BEGIN to unpack this Hold space for not having answers Or thoughts being in development Have the courage to say this is not absolute I am not positive But... Read more
