Have we taken social media way too far? “#SmackCamming” police, exploding fireworks in your butt, setting yourself on fire… Leads me to say yes. The craving for attention and to build one’s own kingdom/empire is still there. Since the explosion of vine, we’ve seen it slowly but steadily dissipate into people willing to do anything that will make them “Vine Famous”. I’m not going to lie, it’s entertaining as hell, but the question remains have we taken social media too far?... Read more

At bedtime, my daughters and I have a simple but essential routine. I kiss the girls, and give them an “Eskimo kiss” (we rub noses).  I give them a “butterfly kiss” (we rub eyelashes). Then, I hug them while whispering in their ear, “I love you”. Very often I’ll include an extra phrase like, “I’m really proud of you” or “I’m so glad you’re my baby”. I love my daughters, and I’ve never been ashamed to show it. When I... Read more

Jon Foreman’s response after being asked if he plans on writing Christian music in the future: “To be honest, this question grieves me because I feel that it represents a much bigger issue than simply a couple SF tunes. In true Socratic form, let me ask you a few questions: Does Lewis or Tolkien mention Christ in any of their fictional series? Are Bach’s sonata’s Christian? (more…) Read more

I saw my first pornographic image before I was in kindergarten. We were on the way to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. We’d stopped for gas, and while Dad checked the oil, Mom sent me to use the bathroom. There was a picture. Torn from a magazine. Taped to the wall. The photo – a woman with hair down to her knees – seemed sad and alone. Silent. Staring out into the space of that darkened stall, the ragged yellow edges... Read more

If you’ve ever wondered if the church has hurt more people than it has helped, you’re not alone. I’d assume most would say that what we’ve come to know as “Christianity” has done far more harm that it has good. Yes there’s a subjective aspect to this statement, but it’s mostly coming from objective view of basic world history. Constantine. The Crusades. The Third Reich. Reconquista. Catholics vs. Protestants. We look back at our history and we can’t understand how the Church... Read more

Have you ever taken a step back and asked the question, “Why do I believe what I believe?” Many of us when asked this question, reply immediately, “Because of the bible.” Growing up in Churches this is just what we’ve been taught in Sunday school and youth group, from child hood on, singing aloud without thinking: “Jesus loves me this I know, for the bible tells me so…” We find ourselves believing and dedicating the entirety of our lives, the... Read more

It’s said that we’ve entered into a “post-Christian era”… I’d suggest that rather we’re entering into our first true Christian era. An era encompassed by believers that will alter this damaged and highly negative perception outsiders have of us as Christian’s. All the while Engaging within the world and caring about all as opposed to just each other. It’s moving in the direction of inclusion, as opposed to exclusion. (more…) Read more
