Be back tomorrow. I promise.  In the meantime, check out Ignitum Today’s symposium on mercy killing and euthanasia. This subject arose after some interesting emails among the contributors, and I think it will be a fascinating symposium. I’m scheduled to contribute on Thursday, so I’ve been preparing myself by watching educational videos such as Logan’s Run. It’s the scientific method, y’all. Read more

We made it to the beach yesterday and spent a fabulous four hours swimming, building sand castles, collecting shells and forcing screaming toddlers to get in the water whether they wanted to or not. (We’re cruel that way.) As a direct result of all that fun, though, today has been an epic day of whiny, tired children, a tired mama, and an overall case of the Mondays. Liam shook things up a little by pulling a steaming-hot mug of steeping... Read more

#7 It’s Friday! It’s Friday AND the Ogre has finally managed to catch up enough with his writing, grading, class-prepping, and general professorial preoccupations to join us for a family day at the beach on Sunday! I’m super excited. I love the beach. Also, I’m scary pale and need some color.  #6 So this morning I clicked on my blog, noticed I had two new followers and thought, “huh. That’s odd. Usually I don’t get new followers when I put... Read more

The old header on my blog…via Baby Gaga Pregnancy makes us women crazy. We do weird and inexplicable things when we’re pregnant, things that don’t even make sense to us. Last night, I decided that 4:16 a.m. was a perfectly reasonable time to wake my husband up for some boot knockin’. He didn’t object, obviously, but he did seem a bit confused when I immediately broke into hysterical sobs afterward. “Hey”, he asked in his gentlest navigating-a-hormonal-minefield voice, “what’s wrong?... Read more

1 So I have set a goal for this post-Easter week, and it’s a terrible, terrible goal that I want neither to set nor meet, but unfortunately I must do both for the good of my family, and it’s making me cranky.  I am going to set a schedule…not just a daily schedule, although that’s part of it, but a rough outline of a schedule for every day of the week. And then next week I’ll have to start following... Read more

It’s Easter morning, at last, and while all the labor-intensive cooking prep is indeed finished (can we say 7 hours hunched over a table brushing phyllo with butter and carefully folding spanakopita into pretty little packets?), the house did not manage to get itself cleaned…to which I say, meh. We’ll pick up after Mass and call it a day. The Ogre thought it was an awesome idea to hide Easter eggs around the house last night so the kids could... Read more

And so it begins. The great, heroic undertaking that is Easter Preparation Week. Growing up, we didn’t have many holiday traditions. The only thing we always did was go to both my dad’s parents’ house and then my mom’s parents’ house. My dad’s mom, before she died, would make the same meal for every holiday: some type of meat, mashed potatoes with cream gravy, macaroni and cheese, green beans with bacon, fried okra and dinner rolls (fourth-generation Texan, y’all). The... Read more

Last night, the Ogre and I went to see the AMU (that’s Ave Maria University, for the uninitiated) students perform As You Like It. Now, I’ve been in love with theater since I was a kid. I was in a children’s theater group for five years, from age ten until I was fifteen. I’ve played Peter Pan, Becky Thatcher in Tom Sawyer, Bert Healy in Annie, Katherine in The Taming of the Shrew, Gwendolen Fairfax in The Importance of Being... Read more

#7 This is exactly how I feel right now I am so sleepy. The Ogre’s students came over last night, and after a frenzied day of cleaning/baking wherein I spent way too much time cleaning the bathroom, got the raspberry bread in the oven way too late, and then yelled at the Ogre when he suggested that perhaps next time I not worry quite so much about what his students think about the state of our shower, I was beat.... Read more

This is starting to become a thing, me being a day late on  my scheduled posting at Ignitum Today. Hopefully next time I can get ahead of the game. Anyhow, here’s a link to my latest post over at Ignitum Today, if you’d like to read it. I’m hoping I’ll have time to get back on the computer later for quick takes, but the Ogre (at my insistence) invited his students over to our house tonight for “light refreshments” and... Read more
