This one courtesy of NASA.   This one from my front yard.  FAST FACT— ECLIPSES ONLY HAPPEN HERE ON EARTH, BECAUSE THE MOON IS THE PERFECT SIZE, AND THE PERFECT DISTANCE FROM THE SUN TO CAUSE THIS EFFECT.  AND THEY SAY THERE IS NO GOD–  The heavens are declaring His glory, but are you paying attention? This one down South. Read more

One of my very favorite verses in all of Scripture is the following: “15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”  Can you imagine being called Jesus’ friend by Jesus himself?  Sometimes that just blows my mind.   And notice the basis of Jesus doing so— because he has shared EVERYTHING he has learned... Read more

Certainly one of my least favorite Impressionists is Toulouse-lautrec.  entitled ‘In the Salon’. Contrast the quality of this painting with the following one by Renoir There are two interesting Gauguin’s in this museum and here they are… There is one painting that seems totally out of place in this gallery of mostly Impressionists– an abstract painting by Kandinsky…entitled Klein Freuden— small joys or pleasures Cezanne’s Plate of Peaches however fits right in…. There were a lot of such still life’s... Read more

One of the more exotic Impressionists, who actually moved to the South Sea islands in the Pacific is Paul Gauguin and his paintings reflect this change of venue.  This one is  called  the  Moon  and  the Earth. A strange portrait is this one by Gauguin— of Meijer de Haan Somewhat better represented is Cezanne… this one is simply labelled Pines and Rocks   Or this one called Chateau Noir… The most famous of his paintings in this museum is Still... Read more

The first museum I visited while in NY was MOMA, and in particular I went to see the Impressionist exhibit and related paintings.  I was not disappointed either.  It was only about a 15 minute walk from my hotel, and the weather was clement enough. One can get a proper crick in one’s neck looking up at the skyscrapers along the way.  In fact this shot was taken from my room at the Hampton on the 25th floor, and I... Read more

Me with my friend the Jesuit scholar Jim Martin, in the office of America Media where he works for his church in New York. ‘A HOUSE DIVIDED AGAINST ITSELF CANNOT STAND’   As a crucial national election season is just around the bend, it might be good to listen to the wisdom of some of our found fathers…. And before them, Jesus himself.   While some have thought Abraham Lincoln came up with this phrase about ‘a house divided’... Read more
