My iPod – Two Cool Songs to Add to Your Playlist

My iPod – Two Cool Songs to Add to Your Playlist 2014-07-22T13:16:54-05:00

When I posted about OneRepublic’s awesome song, “Ordinary Human” — which is on The Giver soundtrack, it got me thinking about music generally and how songs can evoke certain emotions, feelings, and ideas.

Some people don’t like to listen to music when they read.  Others feel like they have to have earbuds.  Either way, it made me wonder other songs showcase the themes of The Giver.

Here are some suggestions I received from people in my book club.

Sandra McCracken‘s Desire Like Dynamite.  From a reader:

I think Sandra McCracken’s Desire like Dynamite talks about the difficulties of desire — how destructive and wonderful passion is.  This reminds me of The Giver book so far, because it seems like the governments tries to make sure the citizens don’t feel anything.

Here’s a gorgeous acoustic version (buy the official version here):

And

“Stubborn Love” by The Lumineers, from another book clubber:

It’s not a perfect song for the movie, but it the main refrain says it all: “It’s better to feel pain, than never feel at all.”

Watch it below and buy it here.
