CLEARWATER, FL – A local church is pulling out all the stops to add a new ministry directed towards caring for “lost puppets”.
Sources report that the idea came after Jack Mercer, Coordinator of Ministerial Efforts at Living Hope Outreach Church For The Lost, was looking for new methods of outreach and digested a local Barna statistics report on the need for churches to expand their puppet ministries.
“My eyes were opened when I read this report. I had no idea that there was such a desire for a strong puppet ministry in our community. We are moving as fast as we can to get this ministry up and running. There are puppets all around us who need food, water, care, love and the gospel. Well, I can tell you there is one place they are going to find it and that’s right here. We have already begun dialog with some online ‘puppet ministry’ supporters to gather ideas on how we can serve those in need. Food and costume donations can already be dropped off at the church” stated Mr. Mercer.
Mr. Mercer went on to elaborate on some of the big plans he has for the ministry. He is actively working with church officials to gain approval to convert the church’s gymnasium to a short-term puppet care shelter. For longer term needs there is discussion of converting some of the Children’s Sunday School rooms into apartments for the ministry.
The congregational vote to approve the pending construction work is slated to occur the last Sunday of the month.
“What kind of ministry do I want? I want it to be the place that other churches and outreaches think of when they want a model of what an exemplary puppet ministry looks like. No one is currently doing it the way we will. But they will want to. I kind of feel like Kevin Costner,” he added, “this is our field of dreams. Build it and they will come. I can see the ghosts now, I mean puppets.”
Mr. Mercer went on to qualify his statement and clarify that he no longer watches films about ghosts and other worldly subjects, like baseball.
When the Pastor of the church, Dan Dabrowski, was contacted for a statement about the new ministry aimed at caring for lost puppets, he responded with, “What…?”
