4. Will support free speech for students
It seems strange to even say that, but we’ve seen how ridiculous America’s college campuses have become with riots and protests against hearing opposing ideas. Public education across all grades has become too politically correct and that’s got to stop. Future generations need to learn the importance of respecting a variety of opinions.
DeVos has shown her commitment to the constitutional rights of students through her donations to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) which is an organization that pushes back against the academia elite who seek to destroy individual thought. Look no further than the incident at Kellogg Community College, where students were arrested and put in jail for handing out pocket-sized copies of the Constitution and you’ll see why supporting organizations like FIRE are so important. This has happened at other colleges, too. It’s time the Department of Education stand for America’s founding documents and come back to the right side of history.
