Oh, Ben Carson. You have learned the art of hypocritical pandering so very well. You’ve also nearly reached Bryan Fischer levels of psychological projection with this bit about gay rights and pro-choice activists who are using “hate speech” to divide America.

I’m starting to think that Ted Cruz was created in a lab by Bryan Fischer, so perfectly does he embody the lack of self-awareness and psychological projection for which I named the Bryan Fischer Award. Either that, or he is a pathological liar who simply doesn’t care whether anything he says is true as long as it serves his political goals at any given moment. That seems more likely. Witness his op-ed in Politico declaring Obama to be a “monarch” because of his immigration order.

The success of Republican candidates on Tuesday has the Christian right declaring that it only happened because they prayed so hard for it to happen. Laurie Roth writes at BarbWire that it’s all because she told her audience to pray, like she has for years:

Baptist megapreacher Robert Jeffress went on Bryan Fischer’s radio show on Monday and explained that the reason Christians are being “persecuted” in America is because Satan is trying to destroy Christianity. Really? I thought all that prayer stuff you believe in stops Satan dead in his tracks?

There’s a ballot proposition in Alabama, Amendment One, that would ban any application of “foreign law” by state courts, a measure that is pure anti-Muslim demagoguery. In a surprising development, the Christian Coalition of Alabama has come out against the measure and is criticizing people like Pat Robertson and Bryan Fischer who support it.

The city of Houston issued a subpoena in a lawsuit asking for copies of internal church documents, including potentially sermons preached by ministers. That subpoena was clearly overly broad and the city quickly backed off and said that they would narrow its scope. But the Christian right is busy cranking up their persecution complex over it. The American Family Association:

Bryan Fischer is no stranger to staggeringly stupid arguments but this one may take the cake. On his radio show this week he claimed that the fact that we sell bacon in the United States is proof that we are officially a Christian nation. Seriously.

Rick Santorum went on Bryan Fischer’s radio show and offered up a brilliant plan to get the Bible back into schools: “I think we should start calling secularism a religion, because if we did, then we could ban that too.” You’re a genius, Rick. Next you should start calling your car a horse and then you can be a cowboy.

Bryan Fischer had Ugandan evangelist Troy Smith on his radio show and Smith told Fischer that the only reason anyone could possibly oppose the Ugandan law that puts gay people in prison for life is because they’re being controlled by Satan. Because that’s totally reasonable.

You can tell when people are suffering from a derangement syndrome about a specific person. When you hear them constantly making idiotic arguments that they would never make about people on their own side of the fence, you know that’s what you’re dealing with. A perfect example: People freaking out about Obama wearing a tan suit at a press conference.

Ben Carson is the latest conservative to come up with a completely incoherent explanation for the Michael Brown shooting. His answer: Political correctness is what got him killed by a police officer. Would you like to hear his explanation of the causal link between those two things? So would I, but he doesn’t even attempt to make one. On the Steve Malzberg show, they had this exchange:

Jonah Goldberg, only the second most pathetic editor at the National Review (Rich Lowry seeing starbursts when Sarah Palin winked at him means he’ll never relinquish that title as long as he lives), went on Fox News and reacted to President Obama urging people to keep the Senate in Democratic hands for potential Supreme Court appointments. Here’s what Obama said:
