Book Review
I recently read Debra Gwartney’s brave memoir, Live Through This: A Mother’s Memoir of Runaway Daughters & Reclaimed Love.
Wow. It was amazing. I would highly recommend this book. I couldn’t put it down for the 3 days I spent every waking moment ingesting the story wondering how on earth it would end for these girls.
I loved that she was honest about how she felt about everything even when her daughters actions led her to hate them, to hate what they were doing to the family. She has this beauty and elegance with which she used to paint vivid word pictures of what life was like when it was at it’s worst.
This was a book that had me enraptured with her use of words. It was quite stunning. I would read the same sentence over & over again thinking, “how on earth did she think of that? Man, I wish I had thought of that sentence! That was an amazing sentence!”
Needless to say, if you are a writer or interested in going that route you should definetly check out this book for an example of a well written memoir.
Grade: A+
