Rest

Rest March 15, 2013

English Mansion

I’m in a season of rest with the Lord.  A season of grace with the Lord.  Joy.  Like yesterday, I’ll be writing about quiet times for the next few posts, in part because of how much I’m enjoying my time in the Word & prayer in the early morning.  I’ve even surprised my self that I’ve managed to scrape my lazy behind out of bed in enough time to sit in silence on most days before I head off to work.

The opposite of rest is unrest, not busy.  In many ways, I’ve never been busier.  I have so many late nights at work, nowadays that I when I actually get home on time it feels more like an anomaly than the norm.  For the next few months, I’ll be working on a Bible Study published by Abingdon Press, which I’m excited about but has put somewhat of a cloud over my head because it has real deadlines.  Writing, kids, working, home, you get the drill, it’s crazy busy but it’s not unrestful.

There have been times I’ve been this busy and felt the unrest too.  But now it’s different.  It’s a rest coming from the right fuel for this energetic adventure.  Every time I’ve started to doubt this -because I am really in the thick of it right now with multiple projects due- I take rest in the Holy-Spirit-led words I heard last week: you are right where you need to be. Rested.

*Interesting tidbit on the photo above.  I took that at a Chicago Art Museum.  It’s actually a miniature no bigger than a computer screen!  Just the idea of sitting in the real life equivalent makes me feel rested!

“On Fridays around these parts we like to write. Not for comments or traffic or anyone else’s agenda. But for pure love of the written word. For joy at the sound of syllables, sentences and paragraphs all strung together by the voice of the speaker.

We love to just write without worrying if it’s just right or not. For five minutes flat.

Here’s how we do it:

1. Write for 5 minutes flat with no editing, tweaking or self critiquing.

2. Link back here and invite others to join in {you can grab the button code in my blog’s footer}.

3. Go and tell the person who linked up before you what their words meant to you. Every writer longs to feel heard.

OK, are you ready? Give me your best five minutes for the prompt: Rest.” –Lisa-Jo Baker’s Five Minute Friday
