By now you’ve probably heard about the Women’s March on Washington and its organizers’ decision to remove a pro-life woman’s group from partnership status. While the march’s purpose claims to spotlight gender inequality and unjust societal structures, a loud message was sent: Pro-life women are not welcome. The march’s pro-abortion identity shouldn’t come as a surprise. Planned Parenthood is a premier sponsor of the rally. Wedged between principles advocating gay rights and protesting police brutality, the march organizers state they… Read more

A song came on the radio about retrospection that caught my attention yesterday. It’s called “Dear Younger Me” by Mercy Me, a popular contemporary Christian band. The intriguing hook is the songwriter addresses himself with counsels of “if I knew then what I know now” and “what I would’ve changed if I had heard…” Before the song even ended I was thinking about what I would say in a letter to my wishy-washy younger self. The answer came quickly: don’t… Read more

“I’m not one to namedrop,” (she protested) but…I did receive my annual e-Christmas card from a British Lord and Parliamentarian today! David Lord Alton of Liverpool and I are both board members of Jubilee Campaign, USA, and he is another member of my Heroes Hall of Fame: The Defenders of Persecuted Christians. Lord Alton sent a charming “Jacquie Lawson” card. It features a winsomely beautiful country church evening Christmas service with choir singing. Choral music for the young singers in the scene… Read more

Lottie Moon is a household name for many Southern Baptists. Local church bodies within the Southern Baptist Convention pause each holiday season to collect donations for the International Mission Board’s (IMB) Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions. Last year the IMB reached the unprecedented record amount of $165.8 million from the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, the highest total in the 127 year history of the IMB. An inspiring year-end-giving campaign to be sure, but who exactly was Lottie Moon?… Read more

It’s Christmas time, so, of course the American Atheists have spread their cheery billboards across the country, urging that we all “celebrate an atheist Christmas” by skipping church. You can view the 2016 billboards and the organization’s press release on their website. The first billboard shows a text message exchange between two young women in which one laughs at the idea of going to church, saying “I don’t believe that stuff anymore.” She adds that her parents, obviously churchgoers, will “get over… Read more

You may have seen the powerful video of the Sudanese man reunited with his wife and children after four years. Everyone witnessing his homecoming is in tears already, and then the man, Dyan, drops to his knees on the floor of the Texas airport in thankfulness to God. It is beautiful, and what a reminder to us at Thanksgiving. A modern day pilgrim coming to America for freedom! I wish the video had told us from where in Sudan Dyan… Read more

In which I take a letter that really ticked me off to expose the outrage of it, but more, to give glory to the GOD who truly restores the ineligible. To: Terence R. McAuliffe, Governor of Virginia Commonweath of Virginia Dear Governor McAuliffe: A couple of weeks ago, my husband, Francis John McDonnell, received a letter from your office. The letter, sent from Kelly Thomasson, the Secretary of the Commonwealth, informed Fra that you, the Governor, had “restored [his] civil… Read more

I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 8: 11 Today is the last day of the three day observance that includes All Saints’ Eve (Hallow’een), All Saints’ Day, and All Souls’ Day. For the work that I do in my day time job (hah!) at the IRD, this commemoration helps to lighten the burden… Read more

All Saints’ Day is not just the name of a great song by Van Morrison. It is a celebration of, as the hymn says, “all the saints who from their labors rest.” Elsewhere, the meaning of “All Saints” is made even more clear: Some saints are known, some are unknown. But all are precious to God. Or as we pray from the Book of Common Prayer: For all who have died in the communion of your Church, and those whose faith… Read more
