‘Mercy Is’, the Patti Smith song that plays over the end credits of Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, had its world premiere on BBC Radio 6 today. The song also features the Kronos Quartet, performing music arranged by Clint Mansell. You can hear it at the 2:54:50 mark in this program.
The lyrics, as best as I can make them out, go like so:
Mercy is as mercy does
Wandering the wild
The stars arise watching you
A breath upon a cloudTwo white doves
Two white wings
To carry you away
To a land in memory
A land in memoryThe sky is high
The earth is green
And cool below your feet
So swiftly now beneath the bow
Your father waits for thee
To wrap you in his healing hands
As the night sky weepsTwo white doves
Two white wings
To carry you away
For mercy is the healing wind
That whispers as you sleep
That whispers you to sleep
The soundtrack album featuring this song comes out March 25. You can read more about Patti Smith’s involvement with the film here.
