At that seminar our congregation sponsored, Prof. John Pless gave a Luther quote that I hadn’t heard of before: “When the true God disappears, fairy tales arrive.” That is the same point Chesterton would make when he observed that when people stop believing in God, it isn’t that they believe in nothing; they will believe in ANYTHING.

What are some fairy tales that people believe in when they do not believe in God?
