Numbers 28: Give God Your Best

Numbers 28: Give God Your Best 2012-07-20T09:39:47-04:00

Offer these together with their drink offerings, in addition to the regular burnt offering and its grain offering. Be sure the animals are without defect. -Numbers 28:31

If everyone served God the way you did, how would the world look? Would it be better, worse, or the same? For most of us, to consider this question is convicting. Why? We often fail to give God our best.

Yet he is not only worthy or our best; he also expects it. In his law revealed through Moses, he taught that the animal offerings made to him were to be “without defect.” They were not to bring the runt of the litter, or a sick or maimed animal. God asked for an offering that represented their best.

While this type of offering is as old as Abel in Genesis, the concept applies still today. We do not give God the leftovers of our time, energy, abilities, career, or income, but are expected to live holy to him, giving him our all (Romans 12:1-2). When we do, we can look back with no regret and forward with anticipation of eternity with our Lord. It is not only God’s purpose for our lives; it gives purpose to our lives as well.
