When faced with a woman’s impending execution, Jesus got down in the dirt with her. If the stones had flown, Jesus would’ve died. Jesus didn’t entertain any conversation. Jesus remained silent and got down in the dirt. In our culture, we keep seeing people thrown in the dirt. Instead of joining the oppressed and marginalized, we keep asking for more conversation. We have to stop denying the humanity of Jesus by neglecting the fullness of his humanity! Jesus was human. Jesus had nocturnal emissions. While I don’t want to spend much time speculating on the contents of any divine dreams, I think affirmation of the fullness of Jesus’ humanity is what helps us affirm the fullness of our own humanity. Before Jesus died, Jesus was the way. If Jesus hadn’t died, Jesus would still be the way. In the midst of his anguish, Jesus chose to die to show us the way.
