*Though this is definitely outside of what I normally write, I’ve decided to publish a novella entitled “The Church.” From Nov. 30 to Dec. 15, I will be publishing the work of fiction in 15 parts. Each day, I will publish a part of the story of Christian and his quest to plant the largest progressive church in the world.  I will publish the entire work at the end.  Today, I’m publishing the part 15 entitled “The Beginning.”  It is finished.  Enjoy!

Mississippi remained as enchanting as ever. As the wheels turned, I knew I was heading in the right direction. Alone, I was exactly where I needed to be. For minutes and years and moments and seconds, I gave my body and soul away piece by piece. Now, it was my time to utilize some of what I had left within for good. Home called. There’d never been a progressive church in Jefferson. I was no longer interested in biggest or best anymore. I was most interested in being.

Sometime later, I heard Angela won a sexual harassment suit against Rev. Dr. Kensington. Millions of dollars exchanged hands. I wasn’t surprised. I knew we’d created a monster. I had to run away. I had no choice. Though I tried not to think about it, I occasionally prayed that all the people that I left behind would realize how fucked up they were. I knew that was impossible. As I grew older, I stopped praying for them. I was most interested in prayers that had a chance of working. Upon opening, my new church filled with loving and courageous women. Though I resisted, they were adamant about the name, “The Church of the Fierce Vaginas.” Time has been good to us. Daily, we strike fear into the capital of backwards. I love every minute of it. Looking back over all these crazy years, I realize that the queerest thing I ever did was leave the Cathedral of the Swinging Dicks forever. I’ve found God out here just beyond the walls.
