Free Allison Book

Free Allison Book November 5, 2010

Baker Academic has made the offer, and I’m glad they are doing this (the offer is at their Facebook page). Here it is:

Confused or curious about the historical Jesus? It’s time to get some answers from a luminary in the field. Dale Allison, author of the new book Constructing Jesus, has agreed to answer a few questions on the historical Jesus from our Facebook friends. So, submit a question. Three of the best questions will be passed to Dale for answer that we will post here, and the authors of those questions will get a free copy of Constructing Jesus (which retails for $55)!

Dale Allison, widely regarded as one of America’s best New Testament (and Jesus/Gospels) scholars, has yet another book on Jesus. Dale told me years back he was done with writing about Jesus and was moving on to other topics, including the letter of James. Since that time Dale has written three or four books about Jesus and I’m glad he has.

His newest book, Constructing Jesus: Memory, Imagination, and History , has the best discussion I’ve ever seen on how our memories work and that means for “remembering Jesus.” Then he deepens his commitment to the eschatological Jesus portrait he’s drawn before; then a section on the christology of Jesus, one on the discourses of Jesus, one on the passion of Jesus and one on memory and invention — mostly under the theme of “More than a…” line.

This is one of the most mature and innovative studies yet on historical Jesus questions.

Anyway, the reason I wrote this post is to draw you over to Baker Academic and to join in on the discussion about this book.
