Important Background Information

It’s a tragic reality that there are more people enslaved in the world today than ever before. Many of these are vulnerable women and children whose bodies have become commodities through forced prostitution. But this tragic reality is not merely something that happens in far away places on the other side of the world. Human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children are happening right in our own communities.

It is estimated that 100,000 children in the United States are forced into prostitution or pornography every year. 300,000 children are considered “at risk” for such unimaginable treatment. And according to the Polaris Project, the state of Texas has the dubious distinction of having more calls to the National Human Trafficking Hotline than any other state. 15% of those phone calls come from the Dallas/Ft.Worth metroplex.

The issues of human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children are receiving increased attention in North Texas as the area prepares for a massive influx of people coming to town for the big game. With many visitors in town away from their families and without accountability there is an increase in demand for prostitutes, many of whom are in reality modern day sex slaves. Many of them are children.

The “It’s Not My Fault” campaign is trying to seize this important moment in North Texas to promote awareness and long term prevention strategies to protect American children.
