Today an unnamed 14-year-old kid from Everett, Pennsylvania is being tried in PA’s Bedford County Courthouse for (as we see him doing in the photo on the right above that he posted on Facebook, because isn’t half the fun of making Jesus fellate you posting a picture of it on Facebook?) breaking an obscure Pennsylvania state law outlawing the “Defacing, damaging, polluting or otherwise, physically mistreating in a way that the actor knows will outrage the sensibilities of persons likely to observe or discover the action.”

Though it’s unlikely that he will, Mr. Funny could be sentenced for up to two years in prison.

The statue of Jesus is on the property of a Christian organization called Love, Inc. They never had any interest in prosecuting the boy. But when the kid’s Facebook photo was sent to the local District Attorney, he did want to prosecute, so he dusted off some old law books and … today the kid’s in court.

What do you think? Should this boy be in any substantive way legally chastised for doing what he did? Or does this whole thing feel to you like a complete waste of time and energy (not to mention a gross violation of the Constitution’s guarantee of the separation between church and state)?
