Celebrate the Value of Women

Celebrate the Value of Women

Elyse Fitzpatrick

Many women and men have been taught, either implicitly or explicitly, that women shouldn’t hold any positions of leadership because they are easily deceived, too emotional, or not logical enough. How would you respond to that perspective?

Local churches and theological traditions differ on the matter of men’s and women’s roles in the church, home, and world (for example, the office of elder in a local church). We respect these differences. We encourage individual believers and churches to study the Scripture and obey it according to their conscience.

We would note that where the Bible gives different roles to men and women, it does not do so on the basis of deceivability, emotional state, or logical abilities. It gives them on the basis of how certain covenant relationships reflect the relationship between Christ and his people. We find zero biblical basis for the stereotype of women as easily deceived, overly-emotional, or illogical.

Both nature and storyline of the redemption—as we highlight in Worthy—demonstrate that women are every bit as discerning, emotionally healthy, and logical as men. (And, sadly, sometimes as easily deceived, overly emotional, and illogical as men! Our fallenness is not limited by sex!)
