I’ve been a political and ecclesiastical independent all of my adult life. It’s partly because Jesus was that way, too. For example, next month I plan to attend the Annual Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature. I will have been a member of this group for twenty years and will have attended every Annual Meeting except one. Everyone who attends wears a badge of identification. Under my name on my badge it will say “Independent.” I’m not saying this... Read more

Yesterday, I blogged about the NBA-China rift over Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey’s somewhat innocuous tweet, at least to Americans, last weekend which supported democracy protestors in Hong Kong. It was merely an image that said, “Fight for Freedom, Stand with Hong Kong.” China’s government and companies like TenCent came out harshly against Morey’s tweet. China canceled all televised Rockets games for the 2019-2020 season. The NBA is the most popular pro sport in China, and the Houston Rockets... Read more

Yesterday, General Manager Dale Morey of the NBA’s Houston Rockets (my old hometown team for forty years) made a statement in support of the eight-week old protest movement in Hong Kong regarding the “one state two systems” arrangement between Hong Kong and Communist China. Morey, Houston’s GM since 2006, was in Japan with his team playing a preseason game there with the Toronto Raptors when he merely tweeted an image that read, “Fight for Freedom, Stand with Hong Kong.” The... Read more

Third round leader Kevin Na, a Korean American, survived a devastating triple bogie on the 10th hole today to win the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open on the PGA Tour at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada, his hometown. He won it on the second extra hole, the 18th hole, in a sudden-playoff against Patrick Cantlay. It was Na’s fourth win on the PGA Tour and his second win here at the Shriners. He had won it in 2010 as... Read more

Kevin Na shot a blistering nine-under par 61 today at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at the PGA Tour’s TPC Summerlin at Las Vegas, Nevada, to take a two stroke lead with a 191 total into tomorrow’s last round. Upcoming PGA Tour player Patrick Cantlay shot 62 to finish alone in second place, two strokes ahead of journeyman and longhaired Pat Perez. Na lives in Las Vegas and knows those greens. He proved it by making a bushel of... Read more

In 1968, the Republicans put Tricky Dick in the White House. President Richard Nixon had to resign in 1974 or be impeached due to his many lies and coverup about the stupid Watergate break-in of the Democratic headquarters. In that particular case, the coverup certainly was worse than the crime. During my lifetime, this Nixon affair was Republican strike one. In 1999, the Republicans impeached Democratic President Bill Clinton in the House–but it failed to pass in the Senate–for lying... Read more

Republican President Donald Trump is right in calling Adam Schiff “Shifty Schiff.” Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi last week declared that the Democrats were officially opening an impeachment inquiry into the president as to whether or not he has committed “high crimes and misdemeanors. Due to the Ukraine episode that has recently come to light, she designated Mr. Schiff’s Intelligence Committee to lead the way. So, ADAM SCHIFF HAS SHIFTED INTO HIGH GEAR as chairman of intelligence and is about... Read more

U.S. President Donald Trump and Finland’s President Sauli Niinistö met today in the White House Oval Office and then held a nationally-televised press conference. Early during Finnish President Sauli Niinistö’s introductory remarks at the conference, he said to Trump, “Mr. President, you have a very great democracy here. Keep it going on.” And Mr. Niinistö said the exact same thing again later on during the conference. It obviously was point he had been prepared to make. While President Niinistö was saying that and right... Read more

On June 15th this year, as the presidential campaign for next year’s election was about to begin, President Donald Trump tweeted to his 61 million followers, “If anyone but me takes over, there will be a Market Crash the likes of which has not been seen before! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.” More threats from the man who has turned that sacred ground in DC into a Black House. Back on January 27, 2017, only one week after Trump was inaugurated... Read more

Robert Jeffress is the senior pastor of the 13,000-member First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. He is prone to making rash, public statements that draw media attention. Jeffress said recently on Fox News, “If the Democrats are successful in removing the President from office (which they will never be), it will cause a Civil War like fracture in this Nation from which our Country will never heal.” President Trump then sent out a tweet on his Twitter account, quoting this... Read more
