Living in the Tension Gathering – 12/1/14

With Monday, December 1, being World AIDS Day we will be watching the documentary How To Survive a Plague for our Living in the Tension gathering. Considering that the documentary has a runtime of 120 minutes, we will be starting it right at 7pm. We will be at our normal spot in Room 124 on 5255 N Ashland Avenue. The trailer and a description for the documentary are listed below:

HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE is the story of two coalitions—ACT UP and TAG (Treatment Action Group)—whose activism and innovation turned AIDS from a death sentence into a manageable condition. Despite having no scientific training, these self-made activists infiltrated the pharmaceutical industry and helped identify promising new drugs, moving them from experimental trials to patients in record time. With unfettered access to a treasure trove of never-before-seen archival footage from the 1980s and ’90s, filmmaker David France puts the viewer smack in the middle of the controversial actions, the heated meetings, the heartbreaking failures, and the exultant breakthroughs of heroes in the making. -surviveaplague.com

If you’re available beforehand, we will be meeting at Lady Gregory’s (5260 N Clark St.) at 5:15pm to hang out and grab a bite to eat.

We hope to see you there!

Much love.
