“We aren’t alone, we have support and nothing to fear.”

Maryam: I marched … because I am so inspired by people like Linda Sarsour and Hena Zuberi for speaking up and giving a voice to oppressed people. I marched because I’m so disgusted by the propagation of Islamophobia, by the oppression of black people and immigrants, the filthy misogynistic tone of Trump and his cronies and for healthcare because so many suffered for too long without any coverage.

I was so amazed by the outpouring of support by American people. They genuinely care and don’t label a whole group of people because of the actions of a few. It was simply an endearing feeling to be a part of that kind of camaraderie, and know that we aren’t alone, we have support, and nothing to fear.

Sitting behind a computer and reading a few hateful tweets and comments left on articles will sometimes give you the feeling that the opposite is the norm, when in fact it isn’t. It was an awesome and gratifying experience to really see and feel that overwhelming love and support.
