Alhamdulillah, as part of NbA Muslims ongoing initiatives to promote appreciation of distinctive Muslim authorship, we are accepting submissions for the Black Muslim Reads anthology. The collection of poetry and prose is part of our #BlackMuslimReads campaign launched in 2018.

The Twitter hashtag went viral its first year, flooded with pictures of books written by Black Muslim authors in the United States, United Kingdom, and across the globe. This year, the campaign included the Black Muslim Authors event at New York University. Authors had opportunities to connect with readers, network and discuss the critical role of Black Muslim authorship to Muslim cultural experiences in the US and beyond.

Black Muslim Reads will be a chance for writers and readers to, in the words of Umm Juwayriyah, “is an opportunity to share our love and pride for authors writing stories that include us” because “it is a necessary love affair that doesn’t happen enough.”

We plan to release the Black Muslim Reads anthology during Black History Month 2020, including a spectrum of writers. The submission deadline is 9/30/19 at 11:59 pm EST. Visit the Black Muslim Reads Anthology page for more details.
