Is anyone else watching this show and wants to discuss it? Both myself and Cindy Kunsman have been watching and talking about Huluβs new and quite frightening take on Margaret Atwoodβs book. I thought on Wednesday evenings we could have an open thread for anyone watching the show to discuss.
Years ago when I first read this book I thought it was far-fetched, but with Mike Pence, an Evangelical not too dissimilar to those in the book and television show, just a heartbeat away from the presidency it now takes on a scary possibility for our future.
More on the show from Huluβs site:
βAdapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaidβs Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized βreturn to traditional valuesβ. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commanderβs household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids β where anyone could be a spy for Gilead β all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her. β
The show star Elizabeth Moss. She previously played Peggy Olsen on AMCβs hit show βMad Menβ.
Of course all the more Right Wing media outlets hate the show, such as Fox News and The Federalist. What do you think?
