So, no, thatβs not exactly what Lori Alexander said in her old blog Always Learning, but if you read between the line this is exactly she means. Found this on Julie Anneβs Spiritual Sounding Board and not quite sure how this slipped through the cracks. Lori seemed to be implying that men use violence not words to settle marriage disputes.
Hereβs what Lori says about men and their non-talking to solve things:
Then she goes on to claim that physical violence is not right, and thatβs not what she means at all.
Itβs interesting that this screen cap from an old movie is what Lori chose to illustrate the fact that men donβt like to talk to resolve things. Itβs John Wayne spanking his characterβs wife in an old movie βMcLintock!β
Am I the only one reminded of a very difficult to watch scene in Huluβs βThe Handmaidβs Taleβ in a recent episode where Commander Waterford beats his wife Serena Joy with his belt as discipline?
Trigger warning for the video:
No matter how many times Lori says in this post that she is opposed to physical violence and physical punishment in her article this is what she had to say about the John Wayne movie she used a photo from:
Hereβs a movie clip of that scene. Again, a trigger warning for violence against women. I find this clip much harder to watch than that from βThe Handmaidβs Taleβ because people are laughing and jeering at the punishment being inflicted on the woman and the entire thing is framed as comedy instead of abuse:
Any man trying to spank his wife in her underwear publicly without her consent is a criminal, no matter how Lori frames it.
Lori Alexander gives lip service to the idea of no physical violence in marriage, but then turns around and approves. Thatβs just sick.
Men are capable of using words to resolve problems, and any claim to the contrary is that which views men as animals without the ability to control their own behavior. Does not sound like the charactistics of leadership of any type. This type of Evangelical thought on men does men a grave disservice, equating them as lesser being to women. A type of reverse Chauvinism than what we are traditionally accustomed to. That would make Lori a Female Chauvinist Pig.
