Postpartum Depression Demonic?

Postpartum Depression Demonic? August 25, 2018

It’s tempting to talk about Lori Alexander again today because there is so much happening, from her husband Ken posting a God’s judgement threat against everyone at Lori Alexander 2.0 Facebook page, to the fact that Vaughn Ohlman’s drooling over Lori’s posts about virgins and all the hateful red pilling white supremacy guys commenting and the fact that the majority of the comments lately seem to be men. But that’s for another day.

Because of Lori’s reposting one of Nancy Campbell’s posts in its entirety from Above Rubies involving smiling twenty hour seven I stumbled over this dangerous lie – that post partum depression is demonic. One of those stories from birthing mommas that Nancy is featuring lately, of not enough food, of horrible home birth injuries and now this satanic fearing nonsense.

What part of cried and felt overwhelmed does the original poster not understand is postpartum depression, that can last for a few hours to months? Satan isn’t trying to β€˜overwhelm’ you, it’s your own flucuating hormone levels~ In a few people it can trigger deeper issues that have tragic outcomes *Andrea Yates anyone?* No Satan, just your brain chemicals.

Satan gets blamed for a lot of things that are medical, or just our own personal stupidity. If he did everything Quiverfull Evangelical people accused him of he’d be busier than Jesus.

This β€˜advice’ is criminally stupid! Imagining women believing that Satan is messing with them and if they just had stronger faith they would not be suffering is pretty horrifying on so many levels. It’s typical in the self-blaming theology of Quiverfull where everything is always a woman’s fault.
