Well, I made the mistake of not spending the whole day online yesterday. Too bad I only started catching up at 9 pm, when I was too tired to even really understand what was happening. Also, Matt was actually watching this while I was trying to twitter scroll. It’s that pastor’s sermon who really—and I kid you not—decided to take on the question of what women should try to look like as a subject for a sermon. And not being... Read more

Jesus scrolling around TicToc watching people pontificate about how racist he is. I haven’t watched the Meghan and Harry interview because I don’t own the proper device. And I only give over all of my money to the godless entertainment purveyors of Netflix and Amazon instead of whoever it is that platforms Oprah. All that I’ve been able to see are clips on YouTube from which I have been able to enjoy a taste of everybody else’s banquet–like Piers Morgan... Read more

It is vaguely warmer here this morning, and I guess that means I will have to take my creaking self out for a walk at some point. In the meantime, we’ve done a reasonably lengthed podcast about Jesus and John Wayne–not an official take or anything, just a very reactionary one. Matt gets into the spirit by yelling about Marxism, as usual. I think it’s pretty great, but who knows. You’ll have to be the judge. Let’s see, I think... Read more

I’m over at Stand Firm this morning. Over the past tumultuous year, I have become more and more skeptical of the idea that Christians are supposed to “flourish.” It seems a very basic assumption that many of us have, that we’re supposed to do well and be able to use our gifts in the church. When I first heard the term I thought, ‘Oh, of course.’ No one wants anyone to do badly, whatever that might mean. And when you join... Read more

Is it really Friday? PTL. This has been a weirdly busy week for me and I don’t even know if I have anything. One The flap about that Gay Anglican Letter is still going on. M. Valk keeps saying that he’s being obedient or whatever without ever actually doing that. Like my kids who are always coming in to interrupt me to tell me that they’re just about to do what I told them to, but not yet. But shortly.... Read more

I was pretty amused to find Amazon–yet again–recommending my own book to me. This happens every few weeks, or whenever I go to see if there are any more ratings or reviews, or just to gaze at it lovingly before moving on with my day. Twenty-four or thirty-six hours later it shows up in my spam, wondering if I’m interested in buying it again. Then I have to go and look at lots and lots of shoes to get new... Read more

Well, I wasn’t paying attention very well yesterday and didn’t really grasp the shock and horror of Dr. Suess being canceled. Apparently six books that have “racist and insensitive material” are not going to be published anymore by Dr. Seuss Enterprises. I didn’t really click any of the links but scrolling around twitter I can see that two of them are To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street and If I Ran The Zoo, which is sad because... Read more

Jesus as excited as Piers Morgan about Harry and Megan being interviewed by Oprah. Well, good morning to the wide world. There are so many interesting things out there today. To kick things off, Piers Morgan is bitter about Harry and Megan’s forthcoming interview with Oprah: If the movie-style trailer tease released last night is anything to go by, it could make Princess Diana’s infamous BBC interview look like a tea party. Oprah promises ‘shocking’ revelations, says ‘no subject was... Read more

It is a bitterly gray and rainy and windy day here in Bing. To console ourselves for this year anniversary of covid, we did up an excessively long podcast with exhaustive–or is it exhausting?–commentary on the Dear Gay Anglican letter that continues to roil and fret Anglicans around the world. I’m sure that Peitier Valk is enjoying his time in the spotlight, and how he is making the whole world dance to his tune, but this isn’t our first rodeo... Read more

I’m over at Stand Firm this morning. The Anglican world is well into its second (or is it third?) week of controversy over the question of sexuality. Under discussion yet again are the boundaries of sexual behavior for the Christian, how to think and talk sin, concupiscence and orientation, and the “real meaning” of the 39 Articles. This latest flap, however, has a new layer—well, perhaps not new, but at least more on display than at other times. It is the question... Read more
