In 2012, the left-wing media establishment freaked out when I endorsed Mitt Romney. Sticking it to liberals’ identity politics, I endorsed Romney because it was best for America.
In 2016, we have more strong candidates running for President than ever before. But one of them stands out above the rest so far. Governor Rick Perry is on my radar. And no, it’s not because of his cool new hipster glasses and the fact that he’s not intimidated by coyotes.
1. His record of executive experience is unparalleled in creating jobs and economic growth.
Rick Perry served as Governor of Texas from 2000 to 2015. Even liberals at Vox know Rick Perry is the best suited to lead because he’s led the best before. As Matt Yglesias concludes, “Due to Perry’s long tenure in office, Texas public policy very much reflects his values — a light regulatory touch, low taxes, and spending that’s focused on infrastructure rather than social assistance. And it’s more or less achieved what it’s supposed to achieve: rapid job growth.”
2. He has a plan to fix our broken government.
He’s surrounding himself with some of the brightest policy experts to ensure he has conservative, innovative reforms for our broken government.
Rick’s campaign has attracted some of the brightest talent from some of the best conservative think tanks. As Governor Perry says, “2016 will be about a record of leadership. It will be a show me don’t tell me election.”
Governor Perry’s record of leadership is attracting the best and brightest because they want to help make America strong and prosperous again after the debacle that has been two terms under President Obama. The talent is coming to Governor Perry because they have seen him fix broken governments before.
3. He knows that America needs to be a strong force for freedom in the world.
Governor Perry realizes that we must rebuild our military, which the Obama Administration has gutted, in order to make America and ultimately the world safe and secure. As one of the only veterans running for President, he has seen first hand the importance of a strong military.
His military service helps shape how he sees America’s role in the world. While President Obama leads from behind and weakly negotiates with some of our biggest enemies, Rick Perry realizes how bold and strong America needs to be.
He’s not afraid to call out the danger of President Obama’s policies and the danger from those within his own party who call for increased isolation.
I’m looking forward to an exciting primary election in which strong conservatives discuss how our solutions to our nation’s problems are far superior to those of President Obama and Hillary Clinton. And I’m excited to see Governor Perry continue to prove why he’s the best person for the job.
He says he’s a man of action. He says he cares. I wonder if he’ll go into the inner cities and let the people there know that he is a man that has solutions for them — that he cares about them — that they are important to him beyond just getting their vote.
