First Lady Encourages Girls to Listen to Musical Lyrics with “N Word”

The First Lady — on the International Day of the Girl — made some odd suggestions to young women.

This UN sponsored project focuses their efforts on empowering and educating women worldwide:

“The newly adopted Sustainable Development Goals rightly include key targets for gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. They offer an opportunity for a global commitment to breaking intergenerational transmission of poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination – and realizing our vision of a life of dignity for all.”

Social media was ablaze on October 11th with the #dayofthegirl. Michelle Obama also took a more modern approach in support of the occasion with a surprising announcement from the White House:

In honor of International Day of the Girl, the First Lady is sharing her first-ever Spotify playlist. From the soul singers of the 60s to the young female artists who have followed in their footsteps – the First Lady has put together a playlist that every woman – young or old – will love.

Although it may have been a fun idea, the contents of this Spotify playlist were the antithesis of what the International Day of the Girl represents.

“Mrs. Obama encouraged girls worldwide to join the feminist battle cry of her pals Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, and Lauryn Hill to tell men exactly where they stand.

First on the list is a Beyoncé anthem, emboldening girls with a repetitive chant affirming they Run the World, and reminds them not to allow any “niggas” to shame them if they have more money and power over a man.

And if that’s not enough feminist empowerment, perhaps the “young girls” Mrs. Obama is hoping to reach could find a better message from Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, or Jessie J in their raunch-filled hit Bang Bang…

And those are just the worst of the worst. Others in the list of 20 songs have less profanity and racist language but carry much of the same message…”

Is this really the message she desires to share with young girls?

This playlist, with its specific purpose, in no way reflects the class, education, and refinement you might expect or hope for from the First Lady.
