All he can do is twist, distort, damage and destroy the good things God has created–and this is one of the reasons why his evil is s profound and elemental.
Think about it for a moment: each of the seven deadlines are a good thing twisted. Greed is the proper love of wealth and material goods twisted into idolatry. Lust is the proper love and affection and desire to procreate twisted into selfishness and self love. Pride is proper self esteem twisted into egocentric self love and willfulness. Wrath is proper indignation and longing for justice twisted into fear and self righteousness. Sloth is the proper love of rest and leisure twisted into depression and inertia. Gluttony is the proper love of food and drink and conviviality twisted into selfish addiction and Envy is the proper love of neighbor twisted into loathing and hatred.
Everything on offer from the world, the flesh and the devil is similarly nothing but a good thing twisted, deformed and then dressed up to look good.
It’s a pig with lipstick.
This is why sin is ultimately unsatisfying–because it is a fake. It is like counterfeit money. You can have all the fake hundred dollar bills in the world, but in the end their fake.
So it is with sin. You can have all the money, sex, food, drink, pleasure an power the world has to offer, but it is all fake, and that is why you end up wanting more and more.
You are convinced it will satisfy, and then when it doesn’t instead of questioning the fake pleasure itself you fall into the trap of saying, “I guess I’m still unhappy because I didn’t get enough of that pleasure.”
That’s what we call addictive behavior and its a kind of insanity.
Its the kind of insanity Satan loves. He loves nothing better than for us to get addicted to some false drug of a pleasure which we keep going back to again and again in the empty hope that it will satisfy us.
Sin? There’s nothing original about it.
Satan’s a con artist. He’s the father of lies. He’s the twister of truth. He’s the polluter of purity, the destroyer of beauty and the betrayer of all that is good.
