The Slaughter of the Innocents Today

He wanted to preserve his power, his pleasure, his prestige and his prosperity, and this is where the slaughter of the innocents echoes into our own age because, of course, we are Herod today, only on a scale that would make Herod blush. I’m speaking about the crime of abortion. We have legalized abortion and killed millions to preserve (just like Herod)

  • our Pleasure: we want child free sex.
  • our Prestige: children interfere with our career and our plans to make something of ourselves
  • our Power: to be a parent you have to sacrifice your own power and serve another
  • our Prosperity: Children are costly. We would have to give up our goodies and playthings and pay for kids.

We are Herod. Furthermore, artificial contraception is most often used for the same selfish motives. We don’t want too many kids because a large family will cut in on our pleasure, our prestige, our power and our prosperity.

The final takeaway is this: Herod’s lust for those four “P’s”–power, pleasure, prosperity and prestige–are what makes him a violent, bloodthirsty and insane tyrant.

Look at our own culture. Look at our own families. Look at our own lives.

The pursuit of these four “P’s” lead to violence and bloodshed. Mother Teresa said, “Abortion leads to war.”  She’s right, and here’s why: because if we will kill our own unborn children to preserve our thrones of Power, prestige, pleasure and prosperity then we will have no problem killing anyone else who threatens our four “P’s”

The only response to this horror are four “P’s” of our own: Purity, Prayer, Penance and Protest.
