Drawing People into Community

Drawing People into Community January 17, 2012

Getting together and sharing, community and listening are central to what I do as the Strategic Monk. Each time provides opportunities to explore, grow into, and express my deepest true self. Each gives me ways to connect with the true selves of people around me.

Essential things happen when people sit down together to share. People with very different kinds of experiences seek those essentials, and I help them move forward.

Each person brings unique gifts to the table. We sit down together, bringing who we are and what we have within ourselves. We share a meal, we share ourselves, we talk and we listen. One step at a time, community grows from those seeds.

I host several regular ways for people to get together each month. You can find more specific information about each of them on the Events page.

Craft Brewery Pilgrimage

I lead a pilgrimage which visits a different craft brewery in Southern California each month. Join me as we explore the monastic roots of brewing great beer and the rapidly growing craft beer community in Southern California. Meet new people and combine excellent food with great craft brews.

Breakfast Quest

I am also on a quest for breakfasts that combine the practical spirituality of monastery breakfasts with hearty, hand-crafted nutrition for our post-industrial lives. Join me each month we visit a distinctive breakfast destination, make new friends, and learn more about where we live. We share parts of our stories, listen, and draw strength from each other as we explore the most important meal of the day.

Happy Hours with a Difference

I also draw together people and congregate each month for some relaxed and informal time together sharing ideas, encouraging each other, and meeting new people. Talking and listening, getting and giving advice, and enjoying each other’s company are great ways to spark learning and growing in new leadership.
