Yet More Ongoing Continuing Research for the 2012 Craft Brewery Pilgrimage

Yet More Ongoing Continuing Research for the 2012 Craft Brewery Pilgrimage January 21, 2012

Preparations for the 2012 Craft Brewery Pilgrimage continue to approach fruition.

Plan now to become a Craft Brewery Pilgrim this year. Join us in celebrating the significant contributions monks have made to brewing, and in appreciating Southern California’s growing craft brewing community.  I always enjoy meeting new people and hearing their stories in real life; this is a great, relaxed way to do that.  We also highlight a nonprofit organization at each stop.

I recently visited several strong candidates.

Jan and I visited Steelhead Brewery in Irvine to continue exploring craft brewing for wine lovers.  A restaurant as well as a place to experience great craft brews, a flight gave us the opportunity to sample the full range of what they offer. Jan preferred their red, while I enjoyed their stout.

I visited Wolf Creek Brewing Company in Valencia with Bill. We ate lunch and tried their flight. Their brews tend to be more along Belgian lines. My favorite was their Midnight Howl Black IPA, though their Surfin’ Monks Triple has the best name!

I had opportunity to visit the newly opened Golden Road Brewing Company in Los Angeles after I met Skipp Shelly at Bockfest in Hollywood. Golden Road offers very good food and excellent brews. I can personally recommend combining their Sloppy Joseph sandwich with their Schwartz Stout.

I also did research at Red Car Brewery and Restaurant in Torrance. Their staff was great, and my favorite brew there was their South Look Porter.

There is still much research to be done, and verified. The 2012 Craft Brewery Pilgrimage begins in February! Check the Events page for the current schedule.

We will visit San Pedro Brewing Company on Saturday, February 25!

Plan now to join us as a Craft Brewery Pilgrim.
