It feels like we are always running out of time. The present rushes into the past, pushing us into the future. We struggle to keep up with the current of time, but are constantly carried along to the next thing.

We feel that if we pause to reflect, or to breathe, we will fall behind and miss whatever is next.

Fortunately, not all life is bound by time. Even in the fast-paced world we have created for ourselves, spiritual life is not limited by time.

Spiritual life pays attention to deep, eternal truths.

We live spiritual life in the present moment. We let go of the memories and fears, the anxiety and regret that distract us. We stop, open ourselves, and the sacred depth that is so easy for us to miss is with us. The rhythm of spiritual life allows the pressures of time to fall away, and we can see clearly.

We do not control the schedule of spiritual life. I know people who worked hard to build their spiritual life and have become frustrated. I know others who were not interested in spiritual life until it was sparked in them.

Spiritual life is not something it takes time for us to learn. We may study or talk with someone about it, but spiritual life itself is within us. When we get out of our own way, stop blocking the light, spiritual life shines through us.

Spiritual life grows as we become more open to it. We find practices or disciplines to help us grow in openness, but they do not make us more spiritual.

Spiritual life is at work in us healing the wounds of our past and preparing us for our future.

When did you last sense the timelessness of spiritual life?

How will you live beyond time today?
