There are times when spiritual life urges us beyond where we are comfortable.

Spiritual life may take us to places where we are not sure we want to go. Spiritual life may put us in touch with people we are not sure we want to know.

We may face our fears or question beliefs we have known our entire lives. Spiritual life may draw us toward making changes or taking actions we would rather avoid.

Spiritual life can stretch us, moving us to spread our wings farther than we think they will go. We may urgently want to climb as fast as we can, or to soar as high as an updraft will lift us. We may want every breath of air under our wings, helping us land safely.

It is a gift to be stretched by spiritual life, even when we are not comfortable. We may have become accustomed to what we see as our limitations. Spiritual life helps us realize our potential is greater than what we expect of ourselves. We can become so much more than who we see ourselves to be.

Spiritual life stretches us by helping us recognize we are more. Spiritual life fills us, clearing away the cobwebs of our habits and false impressions.

It can be painful to be stretched. We may be anxious or uncomfortable, fearful or resistant. We may regret ways we have limited ourselves, or be nervous about where we will go next.

We may not enjoy when spiritual life stretches us. It is the only way to learn how far we can go.

Spiritual life stretches us to show us we can fly.

When does spiritual life stretch you beyond where you think your limits are?

How do you respond when spiritual life stretches you?
