SSF: “Second Wind”

A wonderfully-crafted little short that reminds me (visually and melodically, at least) of my beloved Secret of Kells:

This spiritual journey of two friends becomes a story about life and death whose refreshing aesthetic consists of paper/pencil cell animation.

I’m not sure I grasp the details of the story — the alien windmill threw me off a bit — but I like the suggestion that selfishness damages (even kills) what we love most, and that the cat will need to be profoundly and forever unselfish — blowing life into her master (and friend) — for the rest of all time.

Its creator, one Ian Worrel, works as an art director on a DisneyXD show I’ve barely even heard of, “Gravity Falls.” And if this short and the “end tag” he created for the show are any indication, he’s someone worth watching.

Oh, and he made a short about Icarus. What’s not to like?
