I can’t remember the kind soul who first retweeted this video of Chuck Jones drawing Bugs Bunny — The Anchoress, perhaps? — and that’s a shame, because someone deserves a medal for the amount of pleasure it has given me over the past few weeks. Seriously, I love these sorts of things — showing me a character I’ve seen (literally) thousands of times, but showing it off in a way that brings out its “artistic bones,” and casts it in a charmingly new (if boney) light.
It also reminds me of that great video of Hergé drawing Tintin, both because it, too, features a legendary and much-loved character in the Susanka Household, and because Jones and Hergé are so absurdly self-confident (and lightning-fast) in their sketching. Sure, I realize they’ve drawn those characters millions upon millions of times, but as someone who can’t actually draw myself — No, I’m serious. I can’t draw. At. All. — I’m amazed at that sort of thing.
HT: Mental Floss and the aforementioned kind soul, whoever you may be. Also, there’s a fantastic Tweety Bird/Twitter joke to be made in here somewhere; I’m sure of it. Sadly, nothing springs to “mind.”
