“This is a Judiciary Committee matter, and I believe we will see some attention being paid to it by the Judiciary Committee,” Pelosi told reporters. “Not necessarily taking up the articles of impeachment because that would have to be approved on the floor, but to have some hearings on the subject.”
Pelosi added: “My expectation is that there will be some review of that in the committee.”
[…]
One thing is clear, however — there will be no move to remove Bush from office, despite Pelosi’s comments this morning, or Kucinich’s resolution.
Let’s not kid ourselves about this, or get our hopes up; when your congress’s approval rating stands at 9% in an election year, you have to do something to at least get the far-left back into the fold, and the Pelosi understands that.
The folks on the left are reeling from all the promises the Democrats in both houses haven’t kept and all the backsteps and flips their beloved “agent of change” presidential candidate is making. And they’re just as worried about how they’re going to afford to heat their homes this winter as anyone else. Like the rest of us – something about which we can finally unite! – they’re wondering what the Democrat congress is going to do about gasoline and home heating oil prices, because right now it seems like they are content to do nothing.
The unhappy voters on the left need to be distracted. They need to feel a little happy – about SOMETHING this congress has done – or they may not vote in November and (even worse, because votes can always be found in graveyards) they might stop sending the little checkies. Can’t produce elections without checkies.
So, Pelosi is going to throw a bone to the hungry little folk she has been letting down. They’re going to “look at” impeachment. But it’s not really going to be impeachment, it’s just going to be a little look, a couple of investigations. It’s going to be “fake” impeachment or “feel good” impeachment, if you like. Just enough to quiet down those growls from the left.
And too, the “investigations” will help get things in order so that once President Obama takes office, he can sign America on to the International Criminal Court – which has been hungering for America’s signature these 8 years – and the process of indicting Bush, Cheney, et al for “crimes against humanity” or whatever, can begin in earnest.
Because you must understand – once Bush is out of office and the Democrats control every branch of government, folks will still need something to hate, and a place to direct their hate. They’ve been hating for a long time, now; it’s almost an ingrained habit, or a security blanket.
So, the Dems will ride Bush Derangement Syndrome for as long as they possibly can, even after he’s out of office.
Hey, when something works, you stick with it.
But I wouldn’t get our hopes up on the Vital and Necessary Impeachment of George W. Bush. A real impeachment might destroy a lot of illusions and delusions, and that would be a disaster for them.
Please. Impeach the president. Do it. Bring all of your accusations, narratives, memes, large conspiracy theories and small distrusts, petty dislikes and visceral hatreds. Let’s make it a very thorough impeachment, with long, hard looks and bright, hot lights, and everyone under oath and on the record! You won’t mind if – once we finally lance the purulent boil that is George W. Bush – some of the pus splashes up on you, will you? For the good of the nation?
H/T Surber. I’m surprised it didn’t make more headlines; I only learned about it thru his site.
