ALICIA Beverly, above, is seeking more than $2 million in damages weeks after she awoke on a plane to find drunken North Carolina pastor Daniel Chalmers (inset) urinating on her.

According to this report, a lawyer acting for Beverly, 28, Geoffrey Fieger, filed a civil lawsuit on Thursday on behalf of  the Detroit woman against Chalmers, founder of Love Wins Ministries in Raleigh. Love Wins is named as co-defendant.

The complaint filed in Michigan’s Wayne County Circuit Court says she suffered mental and emotional distress as a result of the incident that during an October 13 flight from Las Vegas to Detroit.

In a news release Beverly’s attorney said:

It is difficult to believe that a church would hire a pastor who boarded a plane drunk and has a proclivity to urinate on passengers.

Chalmers has also been  also criminally charged with assault.

Chalmers had a 0.17 blood alcohol content at the time of the incident and admitted to taking an Ambien sleep aid and drinking two alcoholic beverages prior to the flight.

He publicly apologised on October 27, saying he had a “terrible reaction” after taking Ambien for the first time.

Beverly was sleeping next to her sister in a seat near the back of the airplane when she felt something warm in her body.  She woke up to find a man standing over her, shaking himself off and a puddle of urine on the seat. She screamed. An off-duty police officer jumped into action to restrain the suspect. Beverly sat in wet clothes until the plane landed at Detroit Metro Airport.

According to the complaint, Beverly suffered severe emotional and mental distress; inability to experience social pleasures and enjoyment; humiliation, grief, embarrassment and mortification; anxiety, fright and shock; plus, any other damage that could develop over time.

The complaint accuses Chalmers of negligence, gross negligence, and wanton and willful misconduct; sexual assault and battery; and inflicting emotional distress. Love Wins Ministry is accused of negligent hiring, training, supervision and/or intervention; and vicarious liability.

‘Grief and horror’

Chalmers was also employed in a non-pastoral support role at Catch the Fire Raleigh-Durham church. According to this report, when he was confronted about the incident by lead pastors Murray and Ash Smith, Chalmers “expressed grief and horror”. He then tendered his resignation.

The Smiths said in a statement:

Catch the Fire Raleigh-Durham was shocked and saddened to learn on Tuesday about Chalmers’ arrest in connection with the Oct. 12 incident aboard a late-night Delta flight from Las Vegas to Detroit.

They added:

Our heart goes out to the other passenger. We can only imagine the trauma she has experienced. As a church, we believe that each one of us need the grace of God in our lives. We believe that God has an amazing plan and purpose for each one of us.

Therefore, we are actively praying for both the airline passenger and her family, as well as Daniel and his family. There is a tremendous need for comfort and healing.

The church also posted a message on Instagram:

Chalmers’ eyes were bloodshot and he smelled of alcohol when officers detained him after the flight, according to a police report.

The report said the victim:

Woke up feeling something warm on her body and when she looked up to her right, she observed Mr. Chalmers standing next to her shaking his exposed penis. She stated that she then noticed that Mr. Chalmers urinated on her and she started screaming.
