Wired to the Moonies: Trump addresses Korean cult on 9/11 September 13, 2021

MEMBERS of the loopy Unification Church, a cult known as the Moonies, were treated at the weekend to an address by America’s  Insurrectionist-in-Chief Donald Trump.

The online conference of crackpots –  “Rally of Hope” – was hosted last Saturday by Dr Hak Ja Han Moon, wife of the cult’s founder, Sun Myung Moon, above, who claimed to be the Messiah.

Trump, according to MSN told attendees:

I want to thank the Universal Peace Federation and in particular Dr Hak Ja Han Moon – a tremendous person – for her incredible work on behalf of peace all over the world.

What they have achieved on the peninsula is just amazing. In just a few decades, the inspiration that they have caused for the entire planet is unbelievable, and I congratulate you again and again.

Trump also said that the US “adopted a policy of unprecedented strength” under his presidency, noting that he was the first president to enter North Korea in 2019.

I truly believe that an extraordinary future awaits the people of North Korea.

Twitter users lost no time to poke fun at the deranged Trump and the church. One tweeted:

Moonies have a fucking weird influence on our politics man.

Another said:

I’m feeling a visceral reaction to this news. My brother’s life was in tatters after joining the Moonies in the 70s. I saw Moon speak in 75. He was a lunatic.

A third wrote:

He gave a paid speech to a cult. On 9/11. Before announcing a pay-per-view boxing match. Once again, on 9/11.

MSN added:

The virtual speech isn’t the only controversial thing Trump did over a weekend where other former presidents marked acknowledged the events of 11 September 2001. While Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and current president Joe Biden paid tribute at Ground Zero, in New York City, Trump released a recorded video about the anniversary.

Later that day, he commentated a boxing match with his son, Donald Trump Jr, in Florida, a move which his niece, Mary Trump, above, described as “disgraceful”.

Mary Trump made her comments condemning Trump during a Thursday night interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

“Does it surprise you even by his low standard?” Cooper asked Mary Trump. “If another former president decided to spend 9/11 commenting on a boxing match on pay-per-view, people would … their heads would explode.”

She responded:

That’s been the problem all along. For reasons that are very difficult to understand. There is a completely different standard that Donald‘s held to. In fact, he‘s held to no standard.
… Disgraceful isn’t a strong enough word to describe what you just mentioned  … that tells us everything we need to know about the current state of the Republican Party, and it tells us that the Democrats really need to start wrapping their heads around the fact that this is not a party that can be worked with, this is not a party that should be conceded to.

On Sunday, Ms Trump told CNN’s Jim Acosta:

He doesn’t understand dignity. He doesn’t understand tragedy. He doesn’t understand anything that doesn’t pertain directly to him.
